Why overheating kills computers
Heat is the most common preventable cause of hardware failure we see. These three came through our bench — all of them skipped maintenance that turned into a repair.

15 seconds of runtime → over 2 hours
Shutting down in under 15 seconds. Thermal compound on both GPUs and the processor had degraded completely. After replacement it ran for more than two hours without issue.

Arrived dead, not just hot
The cause was the absence of usable thermal compound on the GPU. By then a cleaning wasn’t enough — the overheating had already destroyed hardware, and it needed board-level work.

Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between internal cleaning and thermal paste replacement?
Cleaning removes the dust blocking airflow through the fans and heatsink. Thermal paste is the compound between the processor and the heatsink that carries heat away, and it dries out over time. Dust is usually the faster problem to appear; dried paste is the more damaging one. We treat both together because fixing only one typically leaves the machine still running hot.
How much can this actually help?
On older machines, temperatures commonly drop 15–30°C after a full service. That means quieter fans, better sustained performance, and a longer lifespan for the hardware.
How often should this be done?
Internal cleaning every 12–18 months for typical use, sooner in dusty environments. Thermal compound generally every 3–5 years, or sooner if overheating symptoms appear.
Will it really improve performance?
Yes. When heat builds up, the CPU throttles itself to protect the hardware. Once temperatures come down, performance returns to normal.
Is my data safe?
Completely. This is hardware-only work. We don’t touch your files, software or settings, and no wipe is required.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk in anytime during business hours at our Winter Garden location.
My Mac already shut down and won’t turn back on. Is this the right service?
Possibly not. If overheating has already caused a hardware failure, the machine needs diagnosis first and may require component-level board repair. Bring it in and we’ll tell you which one it is before any work starts.
